Search for man over board near Kusu Island
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) began conducting search and rescue operations near Kusu Island after receiving a report that a man had fallen overboard from the "Asean Raider 2". On Jan 16, 2014, at about 7.30 p.m., the MPA was informed that a man had fallen overboard from the Ferry about 4 km southeast of Kusu Island in the Singapore Strait. The ferry was travelling from Singapore's regional ferry terminal in Harbourfront to Batu Ampar in Batam, Indonesia. Two MPA craft, one Police Coast Guard craft and one Republic of Singapore Navy patrol vessel were involved in the SAR operations. The MPA has issued urgent safety broadcast to vessels in the vicinity to keep a lookout and report any sightings of the missing person. The MPA was investigating the incident.
