Motor yacht in fear of getting crushed between bulker and quay

Mon Jul 06 09:19:39 CEST 2015 Timsen

On July 4, 2015, the German motor yacht "Fortuna" got stuck between the "Atlantic Clover" and the quay of the Elbe Port in brunsbüttel. The skipper had reported an engine failure to the MRCC in Bremen at 10.35 a.m., and the lifeboat "Gillis Gulbransson" of the DGzRS-station Brunsbüttel was dispatched to assist the boat and its crew of two which had been underway from Winsen/Luhe to the Baltic Sea. The skipper managed to steer the boat to the bulk pier in the Elbe Port but was unable to berth due to the strong outgoing current. The "Fortuna" was pushed between the quay and the "Atlantic Clover" where it got stuck and was in danger to get crushed by the bulkcarrier. The lifeboat drifted towards the "Fortuna" with the current and fixed a towing rope. In advance of the salvage the crew of the boat was taken off before it was pulled out of the trap. The "Fortuna" was then towed into the pleasure boat marina in Brunsbüttel. The "Atlantic Clover" left Brunsbüttel on July 5 at 10.40 a.m. bound for St. Petersburg.
