Hijacked crew members released

Seven Russian and one Ukrainian crew member of the "BBC Caribbean" were released on Mar 3 by the Nigerian hijackers after a ransom was paid. They were taken to Frankfurt upon Main for medical treatement, from where they were repatriated to Sewastopol. The unloaded "BBC Caribbean" was boarded by pirates on Feb 5 sputh of Bonny island in the Gulf of Guinea and the hostages taken from board. Three crew members had been able to escape. The ship entered Gran Canaria after the raid.

Negotiations regarding release of crew going on

More than two weeks after eight crew members of the "BBC Caribbean" were taken hostage off Nigeria negotiations were going on with the Briese company which was in contact with the hijackers. The seven Russians and one Ukrainian were at a yet unknown place.

The "BBC Caribbean" was said to be underway to a safe place with part of the crew having remained on board and being able to navigate the ship. The remainder of the crew was taken to an unknow place by the hijackers, nothing was known about their fate so far.
