Repairs of allision damage completed

Fri Jan 10 17:44:46 CET 2020 Timsen

On Jan 10 at 6 p.m. the 'Bjørnefjord' was back in the Høgsfjord connection afer repairs and started its service between Lauvvik and Oanes which meant full capacity and normal timetables on the route again.. The replacement ferry "Utne", which is smaller and has the capacity for 60 fewer cars, could not serve a 24-hour shift, so there has been a reserve itinerary with less departures than normal during the last week.

Allision in Lauvvik

Sun Jan 05 20:49:55 CET 2020 Timsen

On Jan 3, 2020, at 10.10 p.m. the 'Bjørnefjord' on one of the first trips over the Høgsfjord allided with the berth at Lauvvik which resulted in damage to the ferry which must be repaired. The quay corner also suffered some minor damage. There was strong wind in the area at the time. An inspection on the vessel was started to determine the extent of the damage and how long it may take to repair it. It can take up to a week repair in Stavanger before the ferry is ready again. The ferry "Utne" was inserted as a replacement ferry on Jan 4 at 4.30 p.m. The "Utne", however, has a capacity for 40 passenger, while the "Bjørnefjord" has space for just over 100 passenger and their cars.

Tue Jan 01 18:22:51 CET 2019 Timsen

In the night of Dec 31, 2018, the "Bjørnefjord" suffered engine trouble and had to drup anchor south of Fedje. The fery had sailed from Sunde at 8.15 p.m. Due to the bad weather on scene the tug "BB Worker" (IMO: 9360051) was called on Jan 1, 2019, at 10 a.m. from Bergen to hold it in position 60° 44.87' N 004° 48.25' E. Also an SAR helicopter was on standby at Fedje. The ferry was towed to a berth at Hylkje near Bergen on Jan 2 at 9.40 a.m. after the wind had calmed down so far that the ferry could be moved safely.
