Engine blackout and bottom touch in Hamburg

Fri Oct 03 00:56:38 CEST 2014 Timsen

On Oct 2, 2014, at 9:25 a.m the "Bomar Moon" suffered an engine failure on the Köhlbrand in Hamburg and ran aground. The ship had sailed from an oil plant in the Neuhöfer Canal towards Immingham when the blackout occurred running down the Köhlbrand. The master dropped anchor immediately, but in spite of that the ship struck bottom. The tug "Wilhelmine" which was nearby refloated the vessel which was pulled to berth 1 at Steinwerder escorted by the police boats "WS 2" and "WS 25". The ship was detained, and divers surveyed the hull for damage.

The "Stella Moon" under pressure from the company's bankers of Nova Bank has been sold at an auction in Singapore. The sale earned 24.4 million dollars, which is less than half of what the ship has cost to build. The owner Stella Shipping was originally a client of Fionia, but when the bank collapsed, it was transferred to the Novabank Fyn, which is owned by the state settlement bank Finansiel Stabilitet.
