Bonn will not carry out sea evacuations from Sudan

Wed Apr 26 11:00:15 CEST 2023 Timsen

The German Armed forces have ended the evacuation flights for foreigners from war-torn Sudan on April 26, 2023. Mmore than 700 Germans and citizens of other nations have been flown to Jordan by the air force. With the withdrawal of soldiers and equipment from a Sudanese military airfield, the mission ended. The last aircraft with evacuees landed on April 25 at 11:05 p.m. at the Jordanian air base Al Azrak, which the German armed forces used as a base for their evacuation operation. The Air Force carried out a total of eight evacuation flights since April 23, the last three on April 25. A precautionary planned sea evacuation with the 'Bonn' was cancelled. The ship, which had sailed from Augusta on April 22, turned around shortly before reaching the Suez Canal.
