Tank barge grounded on the Rhine

Tue Aug 09 10:53:59 CEST 2016 Timsen

The "Brienzersee", 2543 ts (EU-No.: 7001835), ran aground on Aug 8, 2016, on the Rhine between Bacharach and Lorch. The tank barge was enroute from Amsterdam to Basel with a cargo of heating oil. The river was barred for shipping between Bingen and Kaub after the accident. The cargo was lightered onto another tanker for five hours. No pollution was observed. The ship could be refloated and was surveyed by the relevant authorities which also inspected the propeller in the frame of the accident investigation.

Tanker adrift and grounded on the Rhine

Tue Jun 07 10:21:02 CEST 2016 Timsen

On June 6, 2016, at 11.30 a.m. the Brienzersee", 2489 ts (EU-No.: 07001835), got disabled and timewise stuck at St Goar on the Rhine enroute from Millingen to Rotterdam. The ship went adrift despite an emergency anchoring manoever off the camping ground Loreleyblick. The ship which was loaded with 2354 tons gas oil got stuck on the Schwarz Ground. At the height of the Bankeck the "Martcilino" (MMSI: 205466990) was able to push the ship out of the fairway and connect to its bow, thus stabilizing the situation until two tugs took the tanker in tow and pulled it into the Loreley Port. Ship traffic on the Rhine was barred during the salvage operation. Once the ship was safely berthed, it was found out that the injection pumps of the main engine were damaged, causing an engine failure.
