Tanker taken in tow

Sun Dec 06 17:27:14 CET 2020 Timsen

On Dec 4 the disabled 'Anastasia I' has been taken in tow by the Sri Lankan offshore tug 'Virgo' (IMO: 92766760), which had left Colombo on Dec 1, halfway between Andaman islands and Sri Lanka, after having been adrfit for 10 days. The convoy is sailing in southwest direction towards Dubai.

Tanker towed to safety

Mon Nov 23 11:02:51 CET 2020 Timsen

In a swift operation on Nov 21, the Indian Coast Guard ship 'Vishwast' averted the 'Anastasia-1' from running aground off the Nicobar Islands and commenced towing it to safe waters. The tanker, en route to Dubai with 24 crew members onboard, had suffered a total power failure on Nov 19. On receipt of information by the MRCC in Port Blair, a navigational warning was issued. An ICG boat was deployed from Campbell Bay for an assessment of the situation and the 'Vishwast' on routine surveillance off the Nicobar Islands was diverted to the position. An ICG boarding team embarked the 'Anastasia-1' and repaired the Fleet Broadband Communication equipment, made the AIS operational again, and prepared the anchor chain cables of the vessel for manual lowering. Despite dedicated liaison of the ICG with the owners in Kochi, these failed to provide a tug for assistance. The vessel was drifting dangerously towards Katchall island with the risk of running aground. The 'Vishwast' swiftly commenced towing the vessel to safe waters.
