Police raid on cement carrier

Tue Oct 24 13:44:13 CEST 2023 Timsen

Te 'Suhar' was the target of a major police raid just after it docked in Freeport on oct 19, 2023. The cement carrier had pulled up at Freeport Drive off the South Basin in Dockyard to deliver a cargo of 3000 tons to the Maxcem Bermuda plant. Shortly before 11 a.m., a substantial contingent of police backed by the Bermuda Coastguard, the Royal Bermuda Regiment and the Customs Department, boarded the vessel with detection dogs. Coastguard divers also went down, inspecting the ship’s hull. Two Coastguard vessels came alongside the Suhar soon after the ship moored up. The search of the vessel concluded with nothing liable for seizure found. The ship left the port again on Oct 23. The raid had no effect on business at Maxcem. Other than the minor delay in collecting the cement while the search of the vessel was carried out, there had been nothing out of the ordinary for Maxcem, which completed unloading the Bermuda consignment in the morning´of Oct 22.
