Dump truck fell off ferry

Tue Feb 09 12:12:51 CET 2016 Timsen

A dump truck aboard the Captain Earl W. Windsor" fell into the water at Change Islands in the evening of Feb 8, 2016, while the ferry was unloading. The trouble started around 6 p.m., when the truck, loaded with sand for snow clearing, rolled off the ferry ramp onto the wharf. In this moment the ferry began drifting off the wharf, due to a loosely tied rope. Within moments, the truck was in the water, sinking between the wharf and the ferry. The truck driver managed to escape in the last second. The appropriate agencies have been notified. An investigation into the cause of the incident was underway. The ferry was taken out of service for the remainder of the night. A contingency air service would be arranged if needed and weather permitting.
