Three injured when pleasure boat crashed into freigher

Fri Nov 22 10:00:42 CET 2013 Timsen

On Nov 22, 2013, at 4 a.m. a 25-ft-pleasure boat was in collision with the "Kongsvaag" in Bergen near the Askøy Bridge, outside the Esso plant in Kjøkkelvik. One person on the boat was badly injured, and two other suffered minor injuries. The injured have been transported to the Haukeland University Hospital by ambulance. All persons in the boat were accounted for. The lifeboat "Kristian Gerhard Jebsen" went alongside the casualty, also the Norwegian Coastguard, the police, fire rescue and ambulance attended. The boat has run into the side of the freighter by yet unknown reasons. The police towed the boat to shore and launched an investigation. The cargo ship docked in Kjøkkelvik. Officers of the Bergen west police station started questioning the captain and others on board the freighter. Police have routinely taken a routine breath test by the captain of the cargo ship. The heavily damaged recreational boat was being examined by crime technicians. A patrol was sent to the Haukeland hospital to interrogate the three men to take blood samples. Helmsman slept when grounding

Wed Aug 17 10:20:06 CEST 2011 Timsen

The first officer had fallen asleep and another crewmember had coffee break when the "Kongsvaag" slammed into the Fløysundholmen at Austre Bokn in Rogaland on Aug 3, states the Norwegian Maritime Directorate's report on the incident. The chief officer was on duty on the bridge with another man when the ship was scheduled to change course a few degrees to starboard, when it passed Boknahove l/h. But the mate had fallen asleep, and the second had left the bridge. So the shio went straight ahead until it struck at 5:18 a.m. The "Kongsvaag" came from Odda and was underway to Årdal in Ryfylke when she ran aground.
