Fire on crew boat - five injured

Sat Sep 02 20:47:48 CEST 2017 Timsen

In the morning of Sep 2, 2017, the "Channel Chieftain 6" suffered an engine room fire in the port of Norderney. The fire brigade penetraded into the ship's interior with several squads under heavy respiratory protection and extinguished the fire. At about 8 a.m. the fire was out. The fire brigade controlled the engine room with a thermal imaging camera. Temperatures of 180 ° were determined. The engine room was ventilated. At 8 a.m. the ship was handed back to the crew. Already at 1:55 p.m. the fire brigade was once again alerted to the "Channel Chieftain 6". In the meantime, other officials had arrived to get a picture of the situation after the fire in the engine room. Two members of the crew accompanied this work. The fire brigade was called to determine the amount of CO² in the interior of the ship again with their measuring devices. In the further course of the operation, an official suddenly complained of dizziness. The rescue service was then called upon. A total of five people were handed over to the rescue service, which took them to the hospital. The area around the ship was cordoned off. The five injured patients were able to leave the hospital after an ambulant treatment. The investigation was going on, the ship was detained in port. The ship was based in the port of Norderney to carry offshore technicians to the Godwewind wind farm in the Northsea.
