Anchor lost and retrieved
The 'Chem Nicholas' lost its anchor while attempting to heave it up in Vancouver, British Columbia, in position 49 17 22.8N, 122 58 01.8W, on Jan 30, 2021, at 07.20 a.m. while attempting to heave it up. She had moored at Indian Arm "N" Anchorage at Vancouver (Inner anchorage) on Jan 19 with port anchor. While heaving anchor for berthing, the port anchor was found missing detached from the crown D' Shackle along with the shackle pin. The VTS was notified. The vessel berthed safely at the PCT terminal and completed her cargo operations on Jan 31. The anchor was retrieved with a barge and diver assistance. The vessel was shifted back to the Indian Arm 'L' anchorage on Feb 1, and the anchor was fixed back to the anchor chain using the new spare D shackle available on board. The vessel sailed to the next port of call Zhangjiagang after obtaining the appropriate clearances from the Canadian port authority on Feb 1. The vessel's classification attended the vessel at Vancouver for an occasional survey. Currently the anchoring system and machinery were fully operational.
