Medevac by US Coast Guard

Sun Oct 02 12:11:24 CEST 2011 Timsen

U.S. Coast Guard crews from San Diego and Sacramento worked together to medically evacuate a sick crewman from the "CGM Chateu Dif" ship 170 miles northwest of San Diego in the evening of Oct 1, 2011. The man was transported to San Diego and transferred to emergency medical personnel for further care. At 2:30 p.m. on Oct 1, the Coast Guard operations center in Alameda, Calif., received notification that a 37-year-old Filipino crewman aboard the "CGM Chateau Dif" was experiencing a high fever and other symptoms. A Coast Guard flight surgeon was consulted and recommended a medevac for the crewman. An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew launched from Coast Guard Sector San Diego to perform the medevac. A C-130 Hercules plane from Air Station Sacramento launched to provide communications support and coordination for the case and serve as an escort for the helicopter. Once on scene, the helicopter crew hoisted the sick man and transported him to Sector San Diego, where he was transferred to medical personnel at 10:50 p.m.
