CMA CGM Pegasus to open new CICT terminal in Colombo today

Mon Aug 05 11:46:53 CEST 2013 arnekiel

Aug. 05, 2013 (LBT) – The 11,400 TEU container vessel, the biggest boxship ever to call a Sri Lankan harbour, will enter the Colombo Port today (Aug. 5) to mark the opening of the first phase of the 500-million-dollar Colombo Port Expansion Project completed by the Colombo International Container Terminal (CICT). The massive new South Port of Colombo, located mid-way on the lucrative east-west sea route has world class facilities and with its 18-metre draft, can handle even the biggest Triple-E Class vessels carrying 18,000 containers that are already in service. The Colombo International Container Terminal (CICT) is 85 per cent owned by the state-run China Merchant Holdings International. According to shipping veterans, the new port offers numerous advantages to both the shipper and the vessel operators.
