Container ship ran aground

Wed Nov 13 18:18:54 CET 2019 Timsen

On Nov 13, 2019, the 'Concordia' lost control and ran aground with a speed of 15 knots north of Eiksund at Laupsneset on Hareidlandet in the Vartdalsfjord. There was no water ingress, no pollution and no injury reported, but obviously some bow damage. The vessel was enroute from Måløy to Ikornnes in Sykkylven when it got stuck on rocks in pos. 62° 17.00' N 005° 57.14' E. At 6 p.m. the SAR boat 'Klaveness Marine' (MMSI: 257928800) and the tug 'Polar Rex' (IMO: 7392816) were on site. A salvage attempt was to be undertaken with the rising tide at 8 p.m. The tug pulled the 'Concordia' smoothly off. Both ships were heading towards Ålesund with slow speed, where the 'Concordia' arrived short before midnight. The police launched an investigation. The vessel left the port of Ålesund again on Nov 15 at 4.20 a.m. and headed to Bergen with an ETA as of 4 p.m. the same day. The ship entered the Blohm & Voss Shipyard in Hamburg on Jan 24, 2020, at 3.40 p.m. The vessel has now been renamed 'Rainer D'. It left Hamburg on Feb 8.
