COSCO JINGGANGSHAN 9418315

Sat May 28 03:47:55 CEST 2011 odinfm

Chinese bulk carrier COSCO Jinggangshan allided with bunker tanker Aeolos on Gibraltar road on May 26 2011. Bulk carrier called at Gibraltar for bunkering and was leaving port shortly after noon, contacting anchored tanker Aeolos which is used as a storage for bunker fuel. Almost no damage to both vessels, but still, Chinese bulk carrier was ordered to return to port for investigation, maritime authorities have to find out why bulk carrier came so dangerously close to tanker. The incident comes just months after the port’s new vessel traffic monitoring system came into operation, hence the need to investigate why the Chinese ship came so close to another anchored vessel – writes Gibraltar Chronicle.
