Sunken tug raised
The "Crosby Commander" which sank south of Marsh Island on May 29, 30 nautical miles south of Marsh Island, was recovered on July 11 by a crane barge. Three crewmembers had escaped safely in a lifeboat, but one had remained missing. The search for the missing man was called off after a search by the Coast Guard covered 3,753 square nautical miles and lasted approximately 98 hours. Search for missing crew member suspended
The US Coast Guard suspended its search for a person in the water south of Marsh Island, Louisiana, on June 1. Coast Guard assets searched 3,753 square nautical miles for approximately 98 hours for the missing crew member of the "Crosby Commander". The Coast Guard Sector New Orleans had received a report on May 29 at approximately 5:00 a.m. of the tug taking on water with four people aboard. Three of the four people were able to evacuate to a life raft before the vessel sank. The survivors were rescued by the motor vessel "Andi Nicole" and reported in good condition.
Tug sank, search for missing crew member on
The "Crosby Commander", coming from Morgan City, sank on May 29, 2017, around 5 a.m. about 30 miles south of Marsh Island. The vessel with four crew started taking in water. Three of the crew succeeded to abandon the tug into a liferaft before it sank, the fourth went missing. The survivors were rescued by the nearby m/v "Andi Nicole" in good health. The local authorities organized an SAR operation for the missing man, involving a HC-144 Ocean Sentry fixed-wing aircrew of the Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile, an MH 65 Dolphin helicopter of the Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans, the Coast Guard cutters “Razorbill”, “Skipjack” and “Vigilant”, the merchant ships “Andi Nicole”, “GIS Christina”, “Dustin Danos” and “Son River”, the tugs “Crosby Trinity” and “Crosby Trojan” as well as a commercial helicopter from Eugene Island Block 158.
