Medevac off Lihue

Mon Oct 28 10:04:37 CET 2013 Timsen

The Coast Guard medevaced a 43-year-old man off of the "Dunfeng Manila2 approximately 80 miles off of Lihue, Kauai, on Oct 25, 2013. On Oct 24 at 12:49 p.m. watchstanders at the Joint Rescue Coordination Center Honolulu received notification from the vessel regarding a Chinese crewmember who was experiencing sharp pains in his abdomen. At 8:23 a.m., an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point, Oahu was launched to conduct a medevac of the crewmember. At 9:40 a.m., an HC-130 Hercules airplane crew from Air Station Barbers Point launched to the scene with two Chinese translators aboard to help communicate with crewmembers on the motor vessel. The crewmember was safely loaded into the helicopter and transported to the Lihue Airport where he was transferred to emergency medical personnel. He was then taken to Wilcox Memorial Hospital for further treatment.
