Four migrants perished during rescue attempt

Fri Aug 20 10:39:25 CEST 2021 Timsen

On Aug 12, 2021, four migrants perished when falling into the sea when the 'Ever Grace' tried to rescue the 34 people from a dinghy with which it crossed 650 kilometers from the Canary Islands, north of Nouadhibou. Another nine occupants of the boat had died in the previous days after spending two weeks adrift, without water or food, and one more expired on the deck of the Ever Grace, when they were going to be medevaced by a rescue helicopter from the Air Force. The 'Ever Given' had sailed from Las Palmas and was headed to Amsterdam, where it arrived on Aug 19.
