Pirates robbed tug and barge

Fri Nov 24 12:23:57 CET 2017 Timsen

The Malaysian tank barge "Ever Omega", carrying about 3,700 ton of palm oil has been robbed in the waters near Indonesia while under tow of the "Ever Prosper". The barge was hijacked in the waters near Indonesia on Nov 22, 2017, when sailing from Bintulu in the eastern Malaysian state of Sarawak to Penang off the Malay Peninsula. A group of machete-wielding pirates boarded it, and the six crew members on the barge and the four crew members on the tug were tied up by the robbers, who took away the barge but left the "Ever Prosper" behind. The crew on the tug later managed to free themselves and headed towards the waters off Malaysia's southern Johor state. On Nov 23 also the barge "Ever Omega" has been found, but the cargo on the ship worth around 4.5 million U.S. dollar, was believed to be robbed. The barge had set sail from Bintulu on Nov 18 and was expected to reach Penang on Nov 26. Armed bandits stole oil cargo, injured one crew member

Tue Jun 07 09:33:02 CEST 2016 Timsen

On June 3, 2016 the ReCAAP ISC received information from the Sarawak and Sabah Shipowners’ Association (SSSA) that the owner of the "Ever Prosper", 126 gt (IMO: 330974), while towing the barge "Ever Dignity", 2104 gt (IMO: 334884), had lost communication with the ships on June 2. The "Ever Dignity" was carrying crude palm kernel oil. Another tug of the company, the "Ever Master", sighted the tug with the barge, pumping out the palm oil off Mukah, Sarawak, East Malaysia. The ReCAAP ISC reported the incident to the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) immediately. Two MMEA ships were dispatched from Bintulu, Sarawak to the location of the ships which was estimated 35 miles away from Bintulu. The MMEA reported that armed bandits had robbed the crew and pumped out 3000 litres of the cargo the night before. They entered Bintulu port after having completed the transfer. The crew of 10 was safe, one of the crew had suffered an injury to one of his eyes, believed to be punched by the perpetrators. The MMEA ships escorted the "Ever Prosper" and "Ever Dignity" into Bintulu port in the early morning of June 4, and the injured crew member was brought to the hospital. An investigation was ongoing.
