Fusion towed to Palma

Tue Jul 26 10:36:09 CEST 2016 Timsen

The "Fusion" which was about to sink near Freus on July 19, was towed to Palma. In the afternoon of July 19 the Maritime Rescue were about to end the preparations to start towing the boat to Palma to be repaired. The work took place about two miles off the coast of Cavallet. A specialist company was commissioned to plug the leak which opened in the stern and had forced the eight crew members to abandon ship. Fight to keep flooded yacht afloat

Thu Jul 21 11:26:28 CEST 2016 Timsen

Salvors were still fighting to keep the "Fusion" afloat in the evening of July 19 after the ship was anchored in a bay off Ibiza. The yacht has been taking in water from the stern. The Spanish Coastguard had two ships involved in the salvage operation. The hydraulic door located aft of the yacht, that doubles as a swimming platform when opened, seems to have been the source of the trouble. Water reportedly flooded the garage through the open door and caused extensive damage to the yacht as water reached the "Fusion"'s main deck. Luxury yacht in danger of sinking

Wed Jul 20 11:41:29 CEST 2016 Timsen

Eight people have been rescued on July 19, 2016, at noon after the "Fusion" suffered water ingress and was threatened to sink near Freus in the strait between Ibiza and Formentera at the height of Cavallet. The captain has remained on board while the rest of the crew has been rescued by the ferry "Joven Antonia II', which is runmomg between Ibiza and Formentera, and was nearby when the yacht issued a distress call. Salvamento Marítimo initially mobilized two ships, the "Salvamar Markab" and the tug "Marta Mata", which was in the port of Ibiza and went alongside the stricken vessel. The Coastguard have begun bailing out water to prevent the yacht from sinking and have taken the eight people to the port of Formentera. The captain and a salvage company were trying to fix the damage under the supervision of the "Marta Mata".
