Fourth salvage attempt successful

Wed Nov 19 09:19:20 CET 2014 Timsen

On Nov 19 at 2 a.m. the conditions seemes suitable for another attempt to pull the "Argentario" off the beach. The fourth attempt to refloat the vessel succeeded at 2.25 a.m. using the SAR-vessel "Miniplon" (MMSI-No.: 228024600) and means of the SNSM-lifeboat of Saint-Gilles Croix de Vie. The gillnetter was taken to Les Sables d'Olonne where it was to be drydocked for damage assessment. Salvage attempt failed

Tue Nov 18 19:25:50 CET 2014 Timsen

In the early afternoon of Nov 18, the "Argentario" appeared close to return to the sea. A backhoe was sent into the water as a reinforcement, and at noon, a new attempt to pull the ship off started. But the backhoe had to turn around facing the risk of being swallowed by the sea. Then the chain which had a pulling force of 15 tons broke. A final attempt failed at 2.30 p.m. French report with photo and video: http://www.ouest-france.fr/argentario-un-echec-mais-un-nouvel-essai-de-remorquage-cette-nuit-2983974

Salvage postponed

Tue Nov 18 11:00:15 CET 2014 Timsen

The salvage of the "Argentario YE - 425386", 88 ts , was postponed for an undefinite time with the ship ramaining on the beach of Saint Gilles Croix de Vie. The ongoing bad weather and unfavourable wind led the rescuers to take that decision. Even if the tide was high enough, silting of the fishing vessel would still be too high. It seemed that the ship stranded because of a damage on board while the vessel was on its entry to the port.
