Lifeboat took passenger ship in tow after engine breakdown

Shortly after departing from Træna the "Gamle Salten" suffered an engine breakdown on July 14, 2013. The lifeboat "Ruth Opsahl" was called to assist and took the ship in tow to Sandnessjøen. The Norwegian Coast Guard was notified of the engine problems just before 12 o'clock and contacted the lifeboat. The passengers on board were first told that they would be towed to Bodø. Vessel towed to port in gale force winds

The lifeboats "Erik Bye" and "Ruth Opsahl" towe the "Gamle Salten" to Bodø on July 23, 2012. The "Erik Bye" was enroute to Kristiansund when it passed the "Gamle Salten" which an hour later reported propulsion problems. The lifeboat turned around and took the casualty in tow. It was pulled over a distance of 25 miles in gale force winds and very high seas. After about an hour there were problems with the towing gear. GAMLE SALTEN 5308067

On June 16, 2010, the "Gamle Salten" ran aground with 50 passengers and a crew of 13 in the Beiarfjord at 8 p.m. after a fault in the hydraulic system. The ship ran right into the rocks and got stock with its bow which was dented. Several passengers were thrown from their seats and fell onto the floor. Dishes were scattered around. The ship was on a charter tour of the newspaper Avisa Nordland. At 9.55 p.m. the rescue boat "Ruth Opsahl" came to assist the ship back to Bodoe where it berthed at 00.22 a.m. on June 17.
