Port of Astoria seeks damages for Pier 1 ship bump in Sept. 2014

Thu Dec 18 07:57:43 CET 2014 arnekiel

The Port of Astoria is trying to get recompense for a log ship that struck Pier 1 in September. On Sept. 27, the bulk carrier Global Endeavor ran into Pier 1 while coming in to load logs at the Port of Astoria. The Port of Astoria, still able to use the docks, is seeking recompense from the ship’s operators. The Port Commission Tuesday unanimously approved a motion to allow Executive Director Jim Knight to send out a request for proposals to research the extent and cause of the damage, if need be. “Our hope is that we can use SDAO (Special Districts Association of Oregon) to take on the entire case,” said Robert Evert, the Port’s permits and projects coordinator, in a presentation Tuesday about the damage to Pier 1.
