Four injured in alllision

On Aug 1, 2019, the "Hafencity“ allided with the wharf in Övelgönne on the Elbe in Hamburg at 9.50 a.m. The ferry, coming from the Landing Bridges, headed towards the berth at an acute angle and with comparably high speed before it hit. Four persns suffered slight injuries such as bruises. Police and rescue forces attended and assisted in disembarking the passengers. A 49 year old woman and an 48 year old man were taken to a hospital in Hamburg for first aid. A steel sheet broke off the wharf, and this part was barred for ferry traffic. The police, the HADAG company and the Hamburg Port Authority launched investigations. They found out that the allision was caused by the failure of an auxiliary engine which had the failure of the main engine and electricity as a consequence, disabling the ship completely. The ferry was moved to the HADAG quay after the accident for thorough surveys.
