Maersk Eureka reached Long Beach

Fri Apr 16 10:20:48 CEST 2021 Timsen

On April 11 the 'Maersk Eureka' berthed at Long Beach Pier T. The ship reached the port of destination exactly a month after its engine broke down in the middle of the Pacific Ocean on March 11.

Tug with repair team on scene

Wed Mar 31 18:48:51 CEST 2021 Timsen

The offshore tug 'Resolve Pioneer' (IMO: 7528843), which was deployed from Dutch Harbor, Alaska, has arrived at the 'Maersk Eureka' which has been been broken down now for more than two weeks in the Pacific Ocean and was adrift 650 nautical miles off Dutch Harbor. The container ship was forced to shut off its main engine back on March 12 to replace a damaged fuel pump while enroute to Long Beach. The vessel was initially able to continue its voyage, but the main again had to be shut off again on March 14, and the ship has been adrift ever since as crew feared restarting the engine could cause further damage. Th cargo remained stable and secure. All reefer containers were supplied with power. The tug arrived on March 28 with an engineering team and repair parts. Maersk expected a progress report from the team on March 31, at which point it will have a better indication of when the ship will arrive in Long Beach. Repairs were expected to continue while the weather remained favourable.

Service crew enroute to disabled vessel

Fri Mar 26 20:51:49 CET 2021 Timsen

A service technician crew and spare parts departed on an ocean-going tug from Dutch Harbour towards the 'Maersk Eureka' on March 25. The tug will reach the vessel on March 28. Repair works were expected to continue until Mar 31. Higher winds were expected in the next three to five days, however as smaller swells have increased, the vessel and cargo remained intact and secure. The vessel was holding steady and there were no concerns at this time. All reefers are on-power. As of March 25, at 2.40 p.m. the ship was located in position 43 44 37N, 164 54 37W, about 610.83 miles off Unalaska.
