Two injured in explosion
An explosion on the cargo deck of the 'Isla Ciari' badly injured two crew members on Oct 6, 2019, at 03.45 a.m. in the Gulf of Mexico, 80 miles off he coast of Ciudad del Carmen. The ship was positioned at Akal Charly platform of Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) in the Campeche Sound when the explosion occurred, which was followed by a fire. The ship was disabled by the explosion and fire and went adrift. Francisco Javier Rodríguez Lara suffered burns at 45% of his body and Antonio de Jesús Castro Navarro suffered a blow to the lower back. The injured were medevaced by helicopter and transferred to hospital, one of them being in critical condition.The fire was extinguished by 6 a.m. At 8.30 a.m. the ship was being towed towards Paradiso.
