Medevac in North Atlantic

Fri Feb 19 10:17:01 CET 2021 Timsen

In the afternoon of Feb 18, 2021, the Netherlands Coastguard was notified that a crew member of the 'Jan Van Gent' had suffered a stroke and was in need of immediate medical assistance. The ship, enroute from Aratu to Aviles, was 190 nautical miles from Las Palmas. Salvamento Marítimo was alerted and deployed the Helimer 202 helicopter from Gando. Due to the long distance, it refuelled in Arrecife to reach the ship. The patient was safely hoisted and transferred to the Hosp. Dr. Negrín.

Grounding in Lake St. Pierre

Sun Apr 10 20:01:13 CEST 2016 Timsen

Coming from Sète, the "Jan van Gent" ran aground in Lake Saint-Pierre, St. Lawrence river, south of Yamachiche, in the morning of Apr 9, 2016. It had got off the fairway after an engine and steering failure and stranded on the north shore of the St. Lawrence River. The unloaded ship was underway to to Hamilton, Lake Ontario. A Transport Canada inspector boarded the vessel in the afternoon to investigate the circumstances of the grounding. The ship was refloated at 5 p.m. with the help of two tugs and proceeded up the river where it docked in Montreal for inspections and repairs.
