Sinking ship abandoned
On Dec 21, 2020, at 08.38 a.m. LT the 'Dong Yang' issued a distress signal. The ship was sinking at 11.15 a.m. in pos. 08 08 24 N, 110 04 48 E, and the crew in need of immediate evacuation. The ship had developed a list of 25 degrees stormy weather. It turned back trying to head against the waves and diminish the impact. Later the 10 crew members abandoned the ship on a life raft. An SAR operation was launched, coordinated by Vietnamese MRCC. The 'Al Samriya', which was in the vicinity, was unable to approach the raft and rescue the crew due to the stormy weather. The Singapore MRCC asked ships nearby to assist.
