Grounding off Xiamen
The "Jhinzao 29" ran aground at the northern coast of Dadan island off Xiamen on July 6, 2016, around 8 p.m. The ship suffered a hull breach in cargo hold 1 area and water ingress. The crew requested immediate assistance. Several rescue ships and tugs were sent to assist. The 14 crew members were evacuated. Chinese crew arrested over fatal crash
Japan's coastguard said on Monday it had arrested a Chinese crew member of a Sierra Leone-registered vessel over a collision with a Japanese ship that left five people dead and one missing. Xia Hong-bo (35) was on duty when the 2,962-tonne Jia Hui collided with the 498-tonne Eifuku Maru No. 18 on Friday, the official said. The bodies of five of those aboard the smaller vessel have been recovered. A sixth man is still missing, a coastguard official said. Xia has been questioned on suspicion of professional negligence over the pre-dawn accident, which occurred in waters off Japan's Izuoshima island, around 100 kilometres south of Tokyo. Local media said the suspect had admitted the allegations. Jia Hui in collision with Eifuku Maru No 18 which capsized, five dead, one missing
The "Eifuku Maru No 18" was in collision with the Sierra Leone flagged "Jia Hui" seven miles west of Izushima Island early on Sep 27, 2013, and capsized. Five bodies were found inside the wreck late in the afternoon, after the Japanese Coastguard launched a search with patrol boats and an aircraft. One man was still missing. Attempts to revive them failed. The ship was drifting upside down about a hundred kilometers south of Tokyo by patrol boats and helicopters. The "Eifuku Maru No 18" was carrying a cargo of steel from Nagoya, central Japan, to Ichikawa. An attempt to tow the wreck to Shimoda had to be abandoned as teh ship settled. The "Jia Hui" and its crew of 13, 12 Chinese and one Malayan, were safe. The ship was headed from Kawasaki, Japan, to Busan, South Korea. It suffered slight bow damage. Its crew was questioned.
