Yacht sank off Mozambique - tanker saved crew
On Nov 16, 2017, the "Kinamagic" sank around on its delivery voyage to the Seychelles and had left Hout Bay, Cape Town, on Oct 20 with a crew of four on board. The crew had stopped in at Mossel Bay and East London, but because weather conditions were so good, they decided not to stop in at Richards Bay and continued up to Mozambique. The Maritime Rescue Co-Ordination Centre (MRCC) based in Cape Town first received a distress signal just before 7 a.m. about 215 km from Ilha Do Fogo (Mozambique) and approximately 175 km directly from the shore. The tank m/v "Mersini" which was in close proximity was contacted them and requested to divert to assist the distressed yacht. The tanker arrived at the scene just after 8.3 0 a.m. and found the four South African sailors had already got into their life raft and the yacht was partially submerged. The four were plucked to safety and taken to the Comoros. The "Kinda Magic" sank soon after the rescue.
