Cargo damage in stormy seas

Strong winds with speeds of 15-18 knots and high waves in the Bali Strait damaged three trucks aboard the 'Prathita IV' enroute from Ketapang, Banyuwangi in the afternoon of June 3, 2020, north of Banyuwangi. A large truck overturned and spilled its cargo of bran on the deck of the ship. It hit another truck with vehicle parts and a truck with chicken food. After loading and unloading at the Movile Bridge (MB) 1 Pier in Gilimanuk port, the 'Pratitha IV' returned to Ketapang Port at 5.20 p.m. to remove overturned truck. Grounding in Bali Strait

The "Prathita IV" ran aground in shallow waters of the Bali Strait on Feb 2, 2019, at 03.10 a.m. with hundreds of passengers enroute from Ketapang Banyuwangi Port to Gilimanuk Port, Bali. The ferry was carrying one motorbike, five small vehicles, four mini trucks, two medium trucks, two medium buses and six large buses when it was caught by strong currents to a point one kilometer from Gilimanuk Port. The 383 passengers and 20 crew members were to be evacuated by an SAR team along with joint personnel from the National Army, Gilimanuk Port, Jembrana Police a.o. with four speed boats within some hours. Around 9:00 a.m. the "Prathita IV" refloated with the rising tide and could continue the voyage to the Gilimanuk Pier where it berthed at the MB I dock. Mayhem on car deck

On June 1 the "KMP Prathita IV" encountered high swells while crossing the Bali Strait en route to Gilimanuk, Bali, tossing the ferry around. The ship which had sailed at 1020 p.m. had almost made the crossing between the two islands Java and Bali when the incident happened. Waves suddenly rose to a heigth of around two meters at 10.40 p.m. in strong southeastern winds which hit the vessel at starboard side for 15 minutes. Trucks on the car deck broke lose and rolled over, causing chaos and damaging at least vehicles, including one motorbike, one refrigerator truck, three medium trucks and on dump truck. On the whole the ship was carrying 20 units, among them 12 motorcycles, four medium trucks and two large trucks. The ship was taken back to its port of departure, Banyuwangi, in East Java. The ferry safely reached the port at 11.15 p.m., none of the 27 passengers were injured.
