Tanker received part of cargo from sanctioned and troubled Russian tanker

Fri Feb 25 11:43:09 CET 2022 Timsen

On Feb 19, 2022, the 'Dream Vision' received a part of the cargo of crude oil from the U.S.-sanctioned Venezuela-owned 'Maximo Gorki' (IMO: 9590008) that had mechanical problems since January in a trans-shipment operation east of Singapore in the Riau archipelago. The tanker had left Venezuela in Nov 2021 amid an export push designed to generate funds for cash-strapped state oil company Petroleos de Venezuela (PDVSA), which has been under U.S. trading sanctions since 2019. The ship, however, could not complete its cargo delivery to an undisclosed customer under a CIF arrangement on time after delays caused by mechanical problems, forcing PDVSA to replace its crew and look for new vessels able to receive the transferred cargo at sea. U.S. authorities have been tracking the tanker, as they do with all sanctioned vessels, and was aware it was in trouble and seeking to transfer its cargo. The VLCC was reported near Singapore in late January after crossing Indonesia’s Lombok Strait. It then switched its transponder off. The tanker twice failed ship-to-ship transfers, delaying the offloading of its Merey 16 crude cargo. It was unclear if there were plans to transfer another share of its cargo before returning to Venezuela. The 'Dream Vision' arrived in Port Klang on Feb 21.

Sovcomflot Tanker Comes to the Rescue After Trimaran Breaks Apart Off Brazil

Thu Oct 02 09:51:44 CEST 2014 arnekiel

On 29 September, the Liberian-flagged Sovcomflot-owned tanker Krasnodar rescued six yachtsmen from a liferaft adrift 30 miles off the coast of Brazil. The Brazilian sailors had been participating in the Regata Internacional Recife aboard the 10 meter trimaran Nativo when the unexpected occurred late Saturday night. While sailing in rough seas at a speed of around 20 knots, when one of the structural cross-members broke, quickly capsizing the vessel at around 2300 on Saturday. The five crew plus the skipper, Jorge Neves saw the sun rise on Sunday morning while sitting on the overturned hull, but eventually abandoned the floating hull to a liferaft, according to reports from the regatta organizers. The next morning, the Krasnodar found the raft and brought the sailors aboard. BY GCAPTAIN ON OCTOBER 1, 2014
