Grounded landing craft refloated

Tue May 04 09:46:34 CEST 2021 Timsen

On May 3 the LCT 'Cebu Great Ocean' has been successfully refloated and was towed from the shore. The engine room was flooded and was cleaned by the salvors. Divers from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources checked the area where the vessel had run aground and reported that they did not see any damage to marine life and no oil spill was seen. Before, approximately 80 litres of diesel fuel have been pumped out from the tanks. The ship was later towed to Cebu.

SAR operation terminated

Sun May 02 19:25:09 CEST 2021 Timsen

On May 2 the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) terminated the SAR operations for the seven crewmembers of the LCT 'Cebu Great Ocean' that ran aground during the onslaught of Typhoon Bising in Surigao del Norte. The team of the Coast Guard Surigao del Norte was tasked to search and retrieval for barge captain Mario Palacio and his six men after considering the factors. Nearby PCG stations and their regional district offices in Northeastern Mindanao, Northern Mindanao and Eastern Visayas were requested to issue an alert once they have sightings of persons who fit the descriptions of the seven missing crew members.

The families of the four missing crew members of the LCT 'Cebu Great Ocean' have asked the Philippine Coast Guard Station (PCG) in Surigao del Norte to extend the search and rescue operations. Approximately 80 litres of diesel fuel have been pumped out from the grounded vessel since the siphoning operations have commenced.
