Medevac off San Francisco

Sun Dec 04 16:56:34 CET 2022 Timsen

The US Coast Guard and San Francisco Fire Department medevaced a 29-year-old male from the 'Johnelle' at anchorage 9 in San Francisco on Dec 2, 2022, which had contacted Coast Guard Sector San Francisco watchstanders at 12:15 p.m., reporting the crew member fell and needed medical assistance. Sector San Francisco watchstanders dispatched a Coast Guard Air Station San Francisco MH-65 Dolphin helicopter which arrived on the scene at 1:55 p.m., lowered a rescue swimmer to the 'Johnelle' and determined the man needed additional care before being medevaced. The helicopter crew returned to Air Station San Francisco, picked up a San Francisco Fire Department paramedic, and returned to the 'Johnelle' at 2:35 p.m. The paramedic and Coast Guard rescue swimmer stabilized the patient, hoisted him into the helicopter, and transported him to Stanford Medical Center. He was reported to be in stable condition.

Suspected pirate attack foiled on US cargo ship, involvement of Iran Navy denied

Fri May 25 09:04:01 CEST 2012 arnekiel

Armed guards aboard the 488-foot (148-meter) Maersk Texas thwarted the attack northeast of the Emirati port of Fujairah, Danish shipper A.P. Moller-Maersk said, Bloomberg reports. The Copenhagen-headquartered company said armed attackers in "multiple pirate skiffs" raced straight toward the ship around noon Wednesday despite clear warning signals from the Texas. Guards on board fired warning shots, but the suspected pirates opened fire, prompting ship guards to shoot back at them, according to the shipping line. No one on the Texas was injured in the incident, and the ship continued on its voyage to the U.S., Maersk said. Iranian news agencies reported that the suspected pirates fled when Iran's navy intervened after responding to an emergency call from the American ship. Lt. Cdr. Mark Hankey, a spokesman for the Bahrain-based Combined Maritime Forces, was unable to confirm Iran's role in the incident. He also cast doubt on whether the event was an act of piracy at all. http://www.businessweek.com/ap/2012-05/D9UV4R401.htm
