Tue May 23 10:58:11 CEST 2023 Timsen

On May 22, 2023, the 'BBC Alaska', en route from Bilbao to Montevideo, found a distressed migrant boat 39 nautical miles south of Gran Canaria. The CCS Las Palmas of Salvamento Marítimo mobilized the SAR helicopter Helimer 205, which locates it, and the boat was approached by the 'Salvamar Macondo'. Medevac off Wangerooge

Fri May 27 13:46:42 CEST 2016 Timsen

The "Vormann Steffens" of the DGzRS-station Hooksiel medevaced an 38-year old crew member of the "Marselisborg" on May 26, 2016, in the Northsea off Wangerooge. The Philippino had suffered severe injuries at the legs and hip when falling during maintenance work on board the ship. The MRCC was alerted at 4.30 p.m., and the lifeboat headed to the freighter which anchored six miles north of Wangerooge on Neue Weser Nord roads. A doctor was transferred on board once the boat went alongside who stabilized the patient so that he could be transported aboard the "Vormann Steffens" on a stretcher. Once on shore, he was taken to hospital.

Sinking of the fishing boat Z85 Morgenster caused by a collision with a freighter?

Fri Apr 17 08:58:25 CEST 2015 arnekiel

The sinking of the fishing boat Z85 Morgenster in late January may have been caused by a collision with a freighter, the Stentor reports based on reports in the Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws. Four crew members died when the ship sank. The Belgian maritime police received a detailed, anonymous email stating that the MV Marselisborg, a more than 130 meter long cargo ship, may have crashed into the Morgenster. Radars show the freighter being very close to the much smaller fishing boat at the time of the disaster. The Belgian Minister of Mobility and Transport thinks its unlikely that the Morgenster sunk due to a crash with a freighter, Hart van Nederland reports. According to a spokesperson for the Ministry, this tip has been known for some time and has been included in the investiagtion into the cause of the fatal accident. The Morgenster sank on January 28th and the wreck is still at the bottom of the English Channel between Hastings and Boulogne. The bodies of two Urk residents, Jan Kramer (29) and Bert Woort (45), as well as the body of the Belgian Maurice Coussaert (64) were later found. The body of the Portuguese crew member Americo dos Santos Martins (48) has not been found yet. The main scenario regarding the sinking of the ship is that the Morgenster was sunk by a storm. There will soon be an expedition to the sunken fishing boat where divers will inspect the damage to the ship. The Belgian Ministry of Transport and Mobility hopes that this will help determine the cause. http://www.nltimes.nl/2015/04/15/sunk-ship-possibly-caused-by-crash-with-freighter-four-died/
