Container ship capsized in Shunan

Sun Jul 31 19:14:08 CEST 2022 Timsen

The 'Maya' capsized at its berth at Shunan Port, Honshu, on July 31 at noon LT. The ship lost its stability during the loading of containers, and tilted to starboard side. About 100 containers went overboard and drifted in the port area and Tolkuyama Bay waters. Three crew members who were on board, escaped, one of them was taken to hospital. About 40 liters of fuel leaked. Operations were under way to recover the floating containers and contain the fuel stain. The starboard side of the wreck remained above the water.
