Mavi Marmara victim claims compensation

Tue Feb 01 11:29:41 CET 2022 Timsen

A Turkish court has ordered that a man, who was taken by Israeli soldiers from the 'Mavi Marmara', now sailing as 'Anatolian', and ill-treated in prison, should be paid $ 11.200 in compensation. Nine Turkish citizens died when Israeli commandos stormed the ship, which was trying to break the embargo on Gaza in 2010. One more died in hospital in 2014. Osman Atalay was on the ship as part of the aid mission. He was detained and asked to sign some documents in Hebrew. Israeli officials took his fingerprints, and he spent two days in a cell before appearing before the court. During these two days, he was deprived of sleep and was subjected to psychological torture. He was later deported to Turkey. Atalay later opened a lawsuit in Istanbul, demanding compensation.

Mon Nov 22 10:25:58 CET 2021 Timsen

The 'Anatolian' has been arrested by a local court at Mogadishu since Sep 1, 2021. due to unpaid credits. The vessel will be sold at an auction by local judicial sale office together with Harbour master at Istanbul on Dec 10. The ship remained stationary and under arrest at Mogadishu for the time being. The ship which was raided by the IDF during the 2010 flotilla intended to breach the military blockade of Gaza, has been put up for auction starting at a price of $346,200 due to financial difficulties. The insurance value of the ship is $2 million and it will cost $320,222 to bring the ship from Mogadishu to Turkey. The navigation and communication equipment, as well as other safety equipment, were still in active condition.
