Grounding on the Wester Scheldt
Coming from Helsinki, where she had sailed on Feb 23, 2017, the "MSC Iris" ran aground on the Wester Scheldt on Feb 27 at 3:20 a.m at the Valkenisse Plate near buoy 66. Several tugs were deplyoed to provide assistance. The ship could be refloated just after 4:00 a.m. during the first salvage attempt. The "MSC Iris" was then escorted by the tugs "Union Eagle" and "Union Panda" to Antwerp where she was subject to an inspection to see if any damage has occurred. The tug "Multratug 18" on Sep 16, 2010, recovered the anchor lost by the "MSC Iris" during its grounding on the Wester Schledt off Hansweert near buoy 49 in the afternoon of Sep 15. The vessel itself after having reached Antwerp as a dead ship being towed by the "Multratug 5", "Multratug 18", Union Grizzly" and "Union Amber" - the "Bravo", "Multratug 10", "Multratug 11" and "Union Grizzly" having been released after the successful recovery - left the Berendrecht lock at 5.15 a.m., Sep 16, and berthed at the Delwaide Dock about an hour later. In the evening of the same day it moved to Churchill dock where it actually remains.
