First Season 2012 Live cattle ship leaves Broome
The first live export cattle shipment of the season left Broome at the weekend, bound for Indonesia with 1100 cattle from Christmas Creek Station. Other pastoralists are scrambling to muster cattle ready for shipment, with only a 10-week window to use allocated permits before they expire. Elders Broome and Derby Live- stock manager Kelvin Hancey said exporters did not receive clearance to distribute permits until late last week after paperwork for 125,000 cattle was signed off by Indonesia's Trade Ministry on Tuesday. The Murray Express had been anchored offshore in Broome for a month. Broome Port chief executive Vic Justice said the vessel was the earliest of the season and no more cattle ships were due to leave this week. The first shipment out of Wyndham will be aboard the Devon Express on May 2.
