Engine cooler leaked oil

Thu Oct 24 10:26:46 CEST 2019 Timsen

The 'Governor' suffered mechanical issues on Oct 22, 2019. The vessel remained in port shortly after noon when a sheen was spotted in water in Woods Hole. The pollution in the area of Slip 3 was investigated by the Steamship Authorities (SSA). An engine cooler on board the vessel was found to be leaking lube oil, about two gallons of which entered the water in the area of Slip 3 in Woods Hole in the afternoon. The authority started containing the sheen and repairs were carried out. After four sailings were cancelled, the vessel returned to service at 6 p.m.

Sailings cancelled due to broken wire

Mon Jul 09 13:01:39 CEST 2018 Timsen

The Steamship Authority canceled two early morning sailings on July 8, 2018, because of mechanical issues with the "Governor". The chief engineer found a broken wire on a sensor while investigating an alarm on the reduction gear feedback monitoring system. Maintenance staff came on board and reconnected the wire, and the propulsion system was tested and found to be operational. The Coast Guard then cleared the ferry to return to service. The Governor’s 5:30 a.m. trip from Woods Hole and 6:30 a.m. return from Vineyard haven were canceled. Some vehicles were moved to the 6 a.m. "Island Home" trip and a crew was brought in to run extra trips with the freight ferry "Sankaty".

Another chaotic day for Steamship Authority

Tue Jun 12 20:51:35 CEST 2018 Timsen

On June 12, 2018, a truck driving off the "Governor"struck and damaged cables at the port, causing delays. Just as repairs to the cables were wrapping up, that same ferry suffered a mechanical breakdown, leading to trip cancellations. The mishap with the truck happened when the "Governor" was unloading at one of the two docks in Woods Hole, after arriving there around 7:15 a.m. The damaged cables, which support the loading bridge that carries vehicles to and from the boat, caused the ferry to leave 45 minutes late for its next scheduled trip, the alerts said. That left the authority with only one available spot for ferries to dock in Woods Hole, causing delays for other trips. Around 10:30 a.m., the cables had been repaired, signaling that the ferry would soon return to service and the docking spot would reopen. Around the same time, the suo suffered a mechanical issue. A “low fuel pressure alarm” went off. Around 12:30 p.m. that crews were replacing the ship’s fuel pump. Until that was fixed, the "Governor" remained sidelined in Woods Hole. Ferries docking in Woods Hole were able to use only one slip, which resulted in the arrivals and departures to and from Woods Hole being delayed from their published schedule. The Steamship Authority deployed another ferrym the "Martha’s Vineyard", though officials noted that the fill-in vessel was running behind schedule. Last month, a tractor-trailer got stuck when driving off the "Martha’s Vineyard" at Woods Hole, prompting delays. The authority’s Woods Hole location was in the midst of a major overhaul to rebuild the terminal there and to add a third slip.
