One of the crew died at Intensive care, who was hospitalized after the fire on board the 'Beata', has succumbed to his injuries in Sinop on Dec 20.
Captain missing after ship fire
On Dec 20, 2022, around 8.30, p.m. a fire broke out on the 'Beata', en route from Navodari to Constanta with 17 crew members (14 Egyptian, 1 Georgian, 1 Albanian, 1 Ukrainian nationals), seven nautical miles off Sinop Bozburun. A helicopter of the Black Sea Regional Command of the Samsun Coast Guard responded to the fire immediately, together with the fishing vessels 'Sürsan 21' and 'Kazım Kobya', in coordination with the Sinop Coast Guard Command and Sinop Port Authority. The 'Sürsan 21' evacuated 13 survivors, three were rescued by the 'Kazım Kobya'. They were taken to hospital with four of them being seriously injured and treated in the intensive care unit. A large number of health service, fire brigade and AFAD teams were waiting at the pier for their transfer to the hospital. The SAR efforts continued uninterruptedly in adverse weather conditions for the Egytian captain who was missing. He most likely jumped into the sea and died. The fire was extinguished by Dec 21, but the superstructure has burned out. Before taking the ship in tow, it still has to cool down.
