Tug raised months after sinking with two bodies inside

Tue Jun 26 12:57:36 CEST 2018 Timsen

The "Natalie Jean" that sank in the Mississippi River on March 12, was pulled from the bottom on June 21 with the bodies of its two missing crew members inside. The wreckage was not salvaged for several weeks because the high river level rendered conditions too unsafe. The Creole Chief Inc. in Harveyhad hired a private salvage company to remove the wreck from the river. One person was rescued by a good Samaritan vessel, the "Earl Gonsoulin", after the tug capsized between Chalmette and Algiers, around mile-marker 90.5. The Coast Guard previously identified those missing as Malon Dawsey and Karl Prince. The Coast Guard spent 43 hours scouring the river looking for the missing men the night after the boat sank, but, ultimately, suspended the search. The day the tug sank, the National Weather Service had issued a flood warning for the New Orleans area related to the rising river. Position of tug wreck still unknown

Wed Mar 21 13:17:50 CET 2018 Timsen

Authorities were still searching for the "Natalie Jean" after she sank on the Mississippi River at General Anchorage near milemarker 90.5. with three people aboard on March 12. The Coast Guard had an idea of where the sunken tug might rest, but it was estimated as too dangerous to retrieve at this point. Two crew members were still missing, and the river conditions did not allow them to send down dive crews. The Coast Guard has warned other vessels to be careful in that area. The conditions on the river remained treacherous right now with high water producing a fast current.
