Company considering returning crew

Thu Nov 23 12:35:13 CET 2017 Timsen

After the 11-member crew of the "Nefterudovoz-29M" has been taken off the ship off Bartin, the MBS-Shipping was considering to take them back somehow after the storm subsided. The ship was actually two miles off the shore. The vessel is insured by the Sogaz company, and the insurance company’s representatives have been notified about the current situation. The "Nefterudovoz-29M" had delivered cargoes of cast iron to the port of Bartin from Azov. Then it remained off the harbour for a month. The new ship owner decided to sell the vessel, and it had to be towed to Rostov-on-Don. The ship had been checked by the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) in Varna in August, and defects were revealed then, but the ship did not stop trading. Now the Turkish authorities were considering the possibility to return the crew to the "Nefterudovoz-29M" by helicopter, or if the weather allows to approach a vessel, in some watercraft.

Drifting cargo ship evacuated off Bartın

Tue Nov 21 11:00:26 CET 2017 Timsen

The Turkish Coast Guard rescued all six crew members from the "Nefterudovoz 29" after the vessel had issued an emergency call off the Black Sea coast on Nov 21, 2017 around 7 a.m. A Coastguard helicopter was unable to rescue the crew due to strong winds. A helicopter of the Coastguard Command Center in Samsun was dispatched, and between 08.45-09.30 a.m. the AB-412 helicopter crew plucked the crew off the ship and handed them over to an ambulance in port. The ship was adrift amidst strong winds one mile off the coast of the Bartın province where it had arrived with a cargo of 3.000 tons pig iron on Oct 7, 2017, coming from Rostov. It docked at Bartın on Oct 10 and discharged the cargo Following the unloading of the ship, the ship encountered an engine failure and was moored on the anchorage site as there was no berth in Bartın Port as of Oct 13. In the meantime, she was bought by a new owner, who was going to tow her to Rostov-on-Don. At the time of the accident, both her anchors were dropped. When they did not keep the ship in the storm, engine assistance would have been needed, but it was inoperative as there was no fuel on board either. On Dec 8 a report was issued to the flag state. After the weather has improved, the ship which was 500 meters off the Inkumu shore was to be towed back to its anchorage.
