Bulk carrier approached by armed pirates

On March 22, 2021, the duty officer on board the 'Nord Peak', which was enroute from Qasim, observed a 17-metre grey skiff approaching the port side at high speed, approximately 11 miles northwest of Harf Ghabi, Oman, in position 26 12 00N, 56 00 36E, at 9 a.m. The alarm was raised, the ship?s horn was sounded, speed was increased and an emergency broadcast was made on VHF Ch.16. At a distance of about 40 metres, three armed and masked persons were observed in the skiff. The ship's VHF call was acknowledged by a nearby European mission warship, which proceeded to render assistance. After a pursuit for about 20 minutes, the skiff moved away. The bulk carrier was escorted by the warship to the Mina Saqr Anchorage, where it was considered safe. On March 25 it arrived in Mina Sqr.
