Technical failure in Trabzon
The 'NS Union' suffered a technical failure in its oil pollution prevention systems at Trabzon on Jan 7, 2020. The vessel's departure permission was cancelled by the Harbour Master until completion of repairs. Upon completion of repairs, the permission was granted, and the vessel sailed from Trabzon on Jan 10 at 9.20 a.m bound to Icdas with an ETA as of Jan 13.
Engine failure in Istanbul Strait
The "NS Union", being en route from Iskenderun to Kherson in ballast, suffered an engine failure during the strait passage and drifted dangerously close to shore at Kandilli point on May 6, 2018, at 5 a.m. A coastal safety tug and technical teams immediately attended the ship in order to provide further assistance and ensure the strait traffic safety. Subsequently, the vessel was secured and towed to Büyükdere anchorage where it dropped anchor at 8 a.m. The strait passage permission has been cancelled by the Strait authority until the completion of permanent repairs. A fine was imposed due to the breach of the strait safety regulation. The vessel has to pay the tug assistance expenses to the Coastal Safety account prior to its departure.
Engine failure in Gulf of Corinth
The "NS Union" with eight persons on board, bound for Savona, with a cargo of hydrated aluminium oxide, suffered a main engine failure in the Gulf of Corinth, in lat 38 19.3N, long 22 08.7E, at 1500, on Jan 10, 2018. The vessel arrived at Patras anchorage the same day and was under detention by the authorities. It moored in Patras port on Jan 11 at 8 a.m. It sailed again on Jan 15 at 11.20 a.m.
