Malayan towage hired to refloat box ship, more Jolanda victims along the Philippine coast

The Philippine Coast Guard-Central Visayas hired a tug from the Malayan towage was hired to tow the "Schelde Trader" back to port. Operations still continued as of 4 p.m. and succeeded with the high tide. All crew members on board the vessel were safe including the captain Dmitri Melkosirov. The ship had sailed from Singapore on Oct 31. Other victms of the typhoon Yolanda included the 230 dwt tanker "Alvin" which went aground near Coron Pier, Palawan, which was loaded with 256 tons diesel fuel. Authorities have placed booms around the vessel as a precautionary measure. A tug has been requested to refloat the tanker. The 2311 dwt-ferry "Cagayan Bay 1" and the ferry "Ozamis Bay 1" broke from their moorings at Gothong Wharf in Mandaue City. Four LCTs were driven aground at Cebu and Bohol. The "Roger" went aground in Bohol. The "Big Champ" went aground near Fishport, Poblacion Guindulman, Bohol. The "Castor 6" went aground in a marine protected area near Mandaue City, Cebu. The "Rene" went aground off Carols P. Garcia, Bohol. All crew members except one were rescued. The tug "Metro Tug II" capsized near Consolacion, Cebu. The tug was overturned by the strong waves. The cargo ship "Eva Jocelyn" was thrown onto the shore at Taclohan, the same fate was sharted by the "Tomi Elegance" (IMO-No.: 8351508). Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15MbOelq5a0

Yolanda grounded boxship Schelde Trader and two barges, Cebu

Container ship Schelde Trader caught by typhoon Yolanda ran aground at around 1000 LT Nov 8 13 while departing Talisay City, Cebu, south of Cebu city. Tug was contracted to refloat the vessel, as of 1600 LT Nov 8 salvage was still under way. Crew remains on board, master of the vessel is Dmitriy Melsikov, Russian or Ukrainian. Two barges, Big Champ and Roger, were grounded by typhoon on a coast of Bohol island, in Guindulman town area. Barges were manned with 8 crew each, one person is missing, others are safe, reported Cebu Daily News.
