Many sailings cancelled due to technical issue
B.C. Ferries had to cancel sailings between Victoria and Vancouver due to a mechanical issue aboard the 'Queen of New Westminster' on Feb 22, Feb 23 and Feb 25 due to a mechanical difficulty with the rudder of the vessel. “Divers investigated the problem, and replacement parts were set to arrive within the next few days. B.C. Ferries tried to reschedule travellers on alternate sailings if they have a reservation, or offered them a refund if no alternative is possible. The ship has remained sidelined at the Tsawassen Ferry Terminal in Vancouver since Feb 20 at 8.40 a.m. UTC.
Ferry returned to Tsawassen for a medevac
The 'Queen of New Westminster' was behind schedule on Aug. 10, 2023, because of a medical emergency on board. The 10 a.m. sailing was on its way to Swartz Bay when a passenger experienced a medical issue about 20 minutes from Tsawwassen. Because the ferry was close to the port, the ship was turned around so the passenger could receive medical attention on shore. The incident resulted in the ferry running about one hour behind schedule.
Sailings cancelled due to mechanical failure
The noon sailing and departure from Tsawwassen, Canada, and the 2 p.m.sailing and departure from Swartz Bay of the 'Queen of New Westminster' were canceled due to a mechanical issue on Jan 20, 2023. The mechanical issue initially put other sailings at risk of cancellation, but in the afternoon the mechanical issue aboard the ferry has been resolved.
