Marine survey vessel commissioned

Dhaka – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has commissioned the newly procured state-of-the art marine survey vessel, RV Meen Sandhani. The vessel has been commissioned aiming at extensive study on marine aquaculture in the extended territorial waters of the country in the Bay of Bengal. The survey vessel will also help develop a short and long term plan for its balanced extraction of marine resources under a pragmatic policy, according to state-run Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha news agency. Prime Minister Hasina announced commissioning of the vessel at Chittagong Port through a videoconferencing from her official Ganabhaban residence on Saturday. Fisheries and Livestock Minister Sayedul Haque spoke at the function from Chittagong Port, while secretary of the ministry Maksudul Hasan Khan spoke at Ganabhaban. According to officials’ descriptions, Meen Sandhani is 37.8 metre in length, 9.2 metre in width and have a 3.3 metre draft and accommodation facilities for 28 researchers and crew onboard. http://newsnextbd.com/?p=2425
